Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office located?

The office is located on SR 70 and I-75. It is directly behind the Speedway in the medical office area in between the big Walmart and Goodwill plazas. The sign on the building will say Bradenton Counseling Center, and my office space is inside.

What are your office hours?

I know my clients have busy schedules, and I always try to accommodate their schedule with flexible appointment times. I have day and evening appointments available.

How long are sessions?

If we are using insurance, sessions are 53 minutes once per week. If a client is paying privately, we have more flexibility and can meet when needed built around hour blocks.

Do you take insurance?

I am in network with Aetna, Cigna, and Humana Military. I can provide a superbill at the end of our work together for clients with out-of-network insurance. Clients are welcome to submit this to their insurer for potential reimbursement or to go against their deductible.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If a client does not show or cancels the appointment within 24 hours, a $25 fee is charged to the credit card on file.

What client demographics do you work with?

I offer child, couples, family, and individual counseling for adults and older adolescents. This means I work with all ages, sexes, and presenting problems. Depending on the demographic, presenting problems, and goals, the format and process of therapy will greatly differ. As always, we will start with a free consultation. If either one of us feels it is not a good fit for any reason, I will provide a referral to another therapist or service that could be helpful.

What do you do in session?

Therapy starts with us getting to know each other. You help me to understand specifically what challenges or difficulties are going on that brought you in. We will talk about exactly what you are looking to get out of the process and how we will know when we have achieved that. From there we will implement in-session counseling interventions that bring you to your desired outcome and goals for therapy.

How long is therapy?

We will discuss an estimated length of treatment in the first session. The length of treatment is very much up to the client. We will be measuring our progress throughout treatment and will stop counseling when you feel you have achieved your goals. Clients often participate in 3 – 12 sessions.

Will I have to talk about bad feelings over and over?

Absolutely not! Getting where we want to go does require that we know where we are starting from. However, once we have a good understanding of the problem, we will quickly move into talking about the solution and changes that help get us to where we want to be.

I feel ashamed that I need therapy.

Everything we know how to do we have been taught. [Insert your favorite conspiracy here} …why nobody officially teaches how to feel good or have good relationships, but I think they are the two most important things we could learn in life. I never tell anyone, “You need therapy, but I always say just about everyone can benefit from counseling.”
